Tour Niterói Fort Santa Cruz - Jurujuba Fishermen colony
Excursion to Fort Santa Cruz near Niterói and Jurujuba with its fishermen colony. You start from Praça Quinze, Rio, with the new Ferries connecting directly to the Charitas, a bay district of Niterói - a beautiful ride of 15 minutes. From Charitas you go to the Fort and on way back you may have lunch or dinner at wonderful seafood lunch in Jurujuba. More attractions: The famous Niemeyer museum MAC and famous Niteroi bridge.
Fort Santa Cruz is one of the oldest and most beautiful Fort in Brazil, prison for many political opponents including Guiseppe Garibaldi, the Italian Liberator. It is also the setting for Brazilian TV Soap Operas.
Tour Sítio Burle Marx - Nature Reserve Grumari - Restaurant Bira
Excursion to Nature Reserve Grumari with its miles of undisturbed beaches and to the Restaurant of Bira in Barra de Guaratiba. Order the pasteis, the moquecas and any fish in the menu. Check for opening times. Lovely views, truly delightful after a day at the beach. Wonderful view from high up in the restaurant to the Restinga de Marambaia and the large Mangrove Area behind and the Mico monkeys trying to join your lunch table.
Tour Downtown - Santa Teresa - Tavares Bastos
Visit the Historic Rio in the city center. Café Colombo is a remarkable Art Deco Café. Taking the nostalgic Bonde streetcar from Largo do Carioca you will go up to Santa Teresa, a pittoresque neighborhood with colonial style mansions, large gardens, and bohemian bars with life music at night.
From there, you may take a taxi going down to Glória and from there going up Rua Tavares Bastos to know a true Rio Shanty Town with a magnificiant view over the Guanabara Bay. The Tavares Bastos Favela is now a very safe place, without drug dealers - the BOPE Elite Batallion is on the site, and the shanty town has become the film set for many Telenovelas (Soap Operas) and Movies, including the new "Hulk" film. There is a Film Class too, "Viajando na Telinha", sponsored by the Petrobras.
Without any doubt, the "Casa do Bob" - the home of Bob Nadkarni, a british filmmaker, TV journalist and painter, is the place to visit (and to stay) - once a month, every first Friday there is a Jazz Night there, and the big hall with a marvellous view to Sugar Loaf and Guanabara Bay.
Jazz RIO Jazz at The MAZE - each 1st Friday of the month
Visit the Jazz Night at the Maze each 1st Friday of the month. The Jam Session takes place at the home of Bob Nadkarni in Catete with marvellous views over the Guanabara Bay.
